Karen Butterfield serves as Director, federal accounts for SunPower and leads the federal team that develops large scale, grid-connected roof and ground photovoltaic (PV) systems on U.S. government property. With her expertise in federal contracting and financing, Butterfield is focused on developing solutions for long term Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and in utility-military joint projects, similar to the solar power plant project that SunPower developed at Nellis AFB. In 2010, Butterfield’s federal team developed the 6MW USAF Academy project, 7.5 MW at various Veteran’s Administration sites as well as projects at NREL and with the GSA. Butterfield is a 20-year veteran of the energy industry, holding positions in management and business development across the disciplines of energy efficiency, demand response, advanced metering and solar PV. Prior to joining SunPower, Butterfield was Western Regional director at Honeywell Utility Solutions. She earned a B.A. in Economics from Bowdoin College.
