Tim Newell is a Senior Advisor to the US Renewables Group, a California-based private equity firm that is among the largest investment firms in the U.S. focused exclusively on renewable energy. Now investing its third fund, USRG is currently managing a portfolio of investments to deploy production technologies and infrastructure in biofuels, solar thermal, geothermal, biomass, and waste-to-energy projects.

In the Clinton Administration, Tim principally served as Deputy Director for Policy in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, where among his responsibilities he was Co-Director of the National Environmental Technology Initiative, a multi-agency effort aimed at improving U.S. research and development and commercial deployment of clean technologies. Before being appointed to the White House staff, Mr. Newell served for six years as a Congressional staff member, including successively as Legislative Assistant, Legislative Director, and Washington Staff Director for then-U.S. Representative Norman Mineta representing California’s Silicon Valley.
